Services most frequently requested are listed & detailed below.
Hourly rates plus expenses apply for field investigations.
- We can often help your case by reviewing the police files, interviewing people identified as witnesses, and by canvassing & locating new witnesses. Their statements may be invaluable to your case.
- Manpower shortages and heavy caseloads make it necessary for the police and prosecutors to keep their investigation short and concise; in the words of the famous TV detective, “Just the Facts, Ma'm, Just the Facts!”. Quite often there is more information available than the facts gathered in the case file.
- The prosecutor wants and needs the basic information to indict and prosecute a case.
- The police provide that basic information in their investigation and move on to the next case. And there is always a next case, usually multiple cases.
- There may be witnesses that the police did not interview that tell a story more favorable to your case.
- Some of the police witnesses may have criminal histories or other agendas your attorney needs to know about.
- Unlike on TV, Motive is not required to get a conviction for an offense. But motive (why you did the deed) can be an important part of your defense or used to reduce your sentence. Usually, an offense does not occur for no reason at all. Your reason, supported by independent witnesses, can affect the outcome of the trial and or sentencing.
- The police investigate the offense and develop their case on the basic facts provided by the evidence and witnesses still on the scene. Once they have built a case the District Attorney believes is sufficient to convict the accused, little if any effort is given to any further investigation. We can help your case by re-interviewing those witnesses and obtaining “the rest of the story”.
- We view our job as finding the “whole” truth about an incident. For example, the police recently filed murder charges on one of our clients. He was accused of intentionally killing another person. The facts are, he did it! The Rest of the Story was, the person had been threatening to kill our client for months. On this last occasion, he confronted our client and our client believed this was the day, so he pulled his gun and shot first. The jury will decide if it is murder, self-defense or something else. The bottom line is, if we had not investigated the case, the jury would never hear from witnesses not interviewed by the police that had information on “the Rest of the Story”.

- Defensive Pre-Sentence Investigations (PSI) A Pre-Sentence Investigation Report is a tool used by the defense attorney when a client has pled guilty but there are special considerations that the Judge needs to know about before he sentences the offender. This is a labor-intensive investigation and report. We can perform a PSI for anyone, but we recommend that individuals contact an attorney before spending money on a PSI. Results are NOT Guaranteed. PSI’s provide the best results for individuals who have a clean background, special circumstances or reputable friends in good standing within the community who will vouch for the client and have good things to say about the client. The price of the PSI is dependant upon the number and location of the people to be interviewed. The persons interviewed also need to be prepared to provide written statements supporting the client. We interview the people recommended by the client, take their statements and prepare a PSI to be given to the Judge to consider at the Sentencing Hearing. The police probably spent much more money in man-hours providing the information used by the Prosecutor. Chances are, that NO money was spent for investigations helping to defend the client.
- Cold Case Review — Is there an unsolved case you are concerned about? No case is too old for review.
- Current Unsolved Case That the Police Has Stopped Working on: We have taken on several cases of this type where the police does have the resources or time to spend on the case that is important to you. See our Success Stories for examples of this type of case.
- Private Investigations require experience, special skills and fieldwork. Research is only the beginning of a field investigation. When the information wanted is out of date, or a person does not want to be found, or if the facts of an incident are not self-evident, a field investigation may provide the desired results. We have the skills, resources and experience in the field to conduct a timely, cost-effective investigation. Our investigative services can be crucial in establishing the facts surrounding a legal problem. We can provide legal support services in conjunction with your legal representation as an effective means of substantiating your case. We can locate and interview potential witnesses and take their statements, as well as to investigate and document accident scenes. In criminal cases, the Prosecutor had police investigators provide the information to make his case. In civil cases, the opposing attorney has had certain information and/or facts provided in order to ‘bring suit’ against you. Who is investigating and providing facts and/or witnesses to support your defense? Our investigative services can often make the difference between winning and losing a case. Favorable results are NOT guaranteed, but you deserve a fighting chance.
- Witness Interviews & Recorded Statements We conduct Interviews and take Statements from witnesses or other persons who can help your case.
- Photography We do not guarantee but will strive to obtain photos and/or video, but there are many factors that can preclude taking clear photos and/or video. We do not charge extra to provide digital pictures or raw video.

There is NO CHARGE if we cannot find the person when the above information is accurately provided. Finding out that the person we are searching for is deceased counts as “locating” the person. If you cannot provide all of the required information above, we may provide several possible names and addresses that best fit the information you provided. It will be your responsibility to contact the “persons located” to determine if one is the SPECIFIC person you are searching for. We cannot be responsible for any inaccurate information you provide. If the case is settled before using the full retainer, the balance will be refunded. If it appears that the case cannot be completed for the minimum retainer, an additional retainer will be required based upon best estimate to complete the investigation.
Texas Sales Tax is required for “investigations & expenses” and is included in all hourly rates and retainer fees.
